Oolong Tea · low oxidation
Mount Qilai is a lightly oxidized high-elevation grown Taiwanese oolong. It is named after the mountain where it's grown, which is part of the Qilai mountain range with its peak sitting over 3,000 meters above sea level.
High altitude grown teas are highly regarded locally. High elevation mountains offer short sun exposure along with misty afternoon and cool evenings, slowing down the growth of the tea plants therefore concentrate its aromatic oils. Surrounded by endless clouds means misty air and high humidity, increasing vibrancy and sweetness of the tea with less bitter astringency.
This oolong tea is fragrant and present with fleshy aromatics in white florals and pome fruits. It stands up to multiple brews and offers a seductive silky long finish.
Mount Qilai, or Qilai Shan (奇萊山), is a set of mountain range located in central Taiwan between Hualien and Nantou. It is relatively new for tea cultivation though is very popular among serious mountain climbers, known to have dangerous climbing terrain and prone to accidents.
