This is probably the most unique herbal tea we've carried. Similar to our Maqaw, this flower is often utilized as a spice in savory dishes among the Taiwanese aboriginal tribes. This is the flower of an aromatic shrub known colloquially as prickly-ash. Though the inner berries are typically discarded, they also make for a tasty tea. Prickly-ash is in the same family as citrus, and its citrusy floral aroma comes through more brilliantly when the plant is steeped as a tisane.
Fragrance and taste are nearly synonymous with one another in this spice-forward tea, with hints of star anise, grapefruit, gardenia, and orange blossom. The medley of rich, redolent aromas nostalgically reminds us of a visit to grandma’s house. Think quilts and doilies in a cozy living room, with the scent of something delicious simmering in the kitchen.
