Welcome to our first savory-sweet mooncake!
Savory-sweet recipes are very much a part of the Taiwanese mooncake repertoire, and this version is inspired by one of our earliest mooncake memories. Typically, the savory filling calls for stewed meats but the brilliant bakers of Yilan, a tiny town in the northeast of Taiwan, decided they would simply fry up their famous local scallions and mix them with sweetened mung bean paste and skip the meat for a lighter body mooncake. The fragrant scallion oil brings a wholesome umami flavor which balances the sweetness of the creamy mung bean paste - it brilliantly makes you crave for more. This is truly a taste of our childhood. If there is a savory-sweet mooncake to try this year, let this be the one!
Like all of our pastries, these are made to order, and no artificial preservatives were added. Please refrigerate upon receipt and enjoying them with a pot of oolong.
Available at the tearooms Tuesday 9/9.
