This box contains the highlights from our sourcing trip this year and a few of them came straight from our luggage! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYuchi basin of Sun Moon Lake was chosen during the colonial Japanese era as a black tea breeding ground because of its mountain-lake microclimate and a favorable soil acidity for tea cultivation. This year’s bounty features what the lake and its nearby region has to offer. \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe bounty box tasting journey will first drop you off at the misty Sun Moon Lake, where you can get a taste of colonial Japanese's influence by sampling two set of white and black tea duo, made with experimental cultivars that started during the Japanese occupation. The trip then brings you to Lugu, a short drive south of the lake, where you taste two roasted Dong Ding oolongs and experience two different roasting levels side by side. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSun Moon Lake is one of our favorite destinations. We love the misty morning strolls, the flickering firefly visits, and of course, all its juicy black teas. He says the brewed tea leaves of a real Iron Goddess should always be thick and pliable, and it should never melt in your hands when you touch it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBrew it on the stronger side. The liquor coats your mouth, and the aroma fills your nasal chambers and stays there for a while. We recommend paying attention for just a few minutes when you drink this tea. He makes and sells his own high mountain tea but has a soft spot for vintage teas. There are large bags of his collected aged tea surrounding his giant teapot sculpture, each varied in sizes and marked with an approximate year and notes on where it came from.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis particular high mountain oolong has been aging for over three decades. He says it tastes a bit like ginseng.  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHigh mountain oolong as a genre is unique to central Taiwan. Harvested from gardens over 1,000 in sea elevation, these tea trees grow slowly, concentrating their aroma. They are prized for thick syrupy texture, beautiful floral character and a long finish. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter over 3 decades of aging though, the liquor of this tea has darkened and the aroma deepened. The bright florals evolved into tangy preserved plums and damped camphor wood. That fresh grassy note is replaced by warming steamed hearty vegetables. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you are a fan of high mountain oolong, give this one a try!
